Hey guys! I just wanted to condense the info on stitch heights into a useful reference for you to use! I will show you the main differences between the basic crochet stitch heights with a really great visual aide included at the end.

Chain
The chain (ch) is the foundational stitch in crochet. You start with a slip knot on your hook and YO and pull through the loop on your hook to make the chain.

Slip Stitch
The slip stitch is the next tallest stitch, even though its more commonly used to secure your work, it is technically slightly taller than a chain. You’ll start in the second chain from your hook, insert your hook, YO and pull through the loop on your hook. Basically stacking two chain stitches on top of each other.

Single Crochet
The third tallest stitch is the single crochet, approximately 1 ch tall. Starting in the second chain from the hook, insert your hook and pull up a loop. YO and pull through both loops on your hook.

Half Double Crochet
The next tallest stitch is the half double crochet, approximately 1 ch tall. YO and insert hook in the second chain from the hook. YO and pull up loop. YO and pull through all three loops on hook.

Double Crochet
The fifth tallest stitch is the double crochet, approximately 2 ch tall. YO and insert hook in third chain from hook. YO and pull up loop. YO and pull through first 2 loops on hook, twice.

Treble Crochet
The final and tallest stitch is the treble crochet, approximately 3 ch tall. YO 2 time and insert hook in the fourth chain from the hook. YO and pull up loop. YO and pull through first 2 loops on hook, three times.
